Birpara a small town located 90km from Jalpaiguri is a commercially significant destination. Back in the days there was no place called Birpara this area was all part of a place called Dalgaon. This area was only visited by fugitives making it one the dangerous zone but soon the tea garden worker of the nearing village started habilitating in that area and they were called Bir people or brave people for living in an area swarm with outlaws and that is how Birpara came into existence in which 'Bir' stands for veer (means brave) and 'Para' stand for place in Bengali.
The melting pot of the diverse culture, Birpara in itself is not very attractive and most people bypass this town on the journey towards Dooars and Siliguri but it harbor some astounding pictorial sites within trouble free travel distance like Gomtu in Bhutan border, famous for its temple of goddess Kali is about 25km far from Birpara. Set among the hill, Gomtu is a virgin destination with the most beautiful and serene environment. The journey towards this pictorial site from Birpara in itself is an amazing experience, the scenic view of the changing vegetation from lush tea garden to green tropical vegetation. Jaldapara National Park located on the foothills of the eastern Himalayas along the river Torsa which is known to host the largest number of this majestic Rhino apart from Assam is only at a mere distance of 20km from Birpara. Along with the mesmerizing sights Birpara is mainly inhabited by various ethnic groups mainly depended on the tea garden of the nearby area. During the last decade due to the decline in tea productivity the localities of Birpara have to depend upon the trade and service with Bhutan.
Though there may not be many places within Birpara to evoke the interest of visitors but there is a picnic spot famous among the localities with a serene ambiance.
