Sandakphu also known as the 'mountain of poisonous plants' because of the abundance of Himalayan Cobra Lilies, located on the fringe of Singalila National Park close to Indo-Nepal boarder is the highest point of the states of Ilam, Mechi, Nepal and West Bengal. At an altitude of 3636mt, Sandakphu (also called Sandakfu or Sandakpur) is famous for being the 'Trekkers Wonderland' since it offers one of the most astounding sights of the four out of the five highest peaks in the world, Mt. Kanchenjunga, Mt. Everest, Mt. Makalu and Mt. Lhotse to the trekkers.

On a clear day the view of the pristine view of the sleeping Buddha can be seen from Sandakphu. The Sleeping Buddha is the group of mountains formed the Kanchenjunga family of mountains. It starts from the peak of Kumbhakarna and then is followed by Khangchendzongha and Simvo on the backmost line. The journey to reach this wonderland of trekker is an enthralling experience which has lured novice and pro trekker towards Sandakphu. The trekking trail towards Sandakphu starts from Manebhanjan about 27 km from Darjeeling and lead towards Singalila National Park which has some of the most fascinating rare animals like Red Pandas and Pangolins, however, rare animals are rarely seen but still the travelers can bask in the pictorial view offered in the park. The serene view of the rolling meadows of blooming rhododendron covering the valley in different shade of red with the backdrop view of the snow capped mountains while trekking towards Sandakphu is sight which has lured travelers from around the globe. The surreal beauty of Sandakphu cannot be described in words neither can be portrayed in any canvas it can only be felt through their own experience. . There is no particular season to trek your way towards Sandakphu every season has its own magic. If you love colors, visit Sandakphu during the springs. See the rhododendrons bloom in a riot of colors. The whole path will be blasting in red, pink and white. Sandakphu will bear a dreamy look in the monsoons. With the clouds hanging just above, you will be transported to the misty and dreamy land. October will give you the best view of the ranges. The sky will be clear and Kanchenjunga will appear with all her glory in front of you. And if you love snow, visit Sandakphu during December and January. The path will be covered with snow and you might even see few frozen waterfalls on the way. Sandakphu will itself be snow covered during this time. Apart from being wonderland for all the trekkers Sandakphu is also a paradise for all photographers from mesmerizing sunrise and sunset to a sky full of star with a view that tends to take every trekker's breath away Sandakphu has got all of it.
