Chalsa

Chalsa is a small town situated on a few kilometers from Malbazar on the way to Dooars from Siliguri. It is located just on the foot of the Himalayas in Jalpaiguri district in West Bengal. The town is surrounded by hills, tea gardens, rivers and forests. The Gorumara National Park and the Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary totally Submerges this place between them.

This small town was known as Queen of Duars in British India. It has an average elevation of 163 meters (535 feet). It is the headquarters of the Metiali community development block under the Malbazar subdivision of the Jalpaiguri district. The national highway connecting the North-East with West Bengal passes through Chalsa. From Chalsa the road to left leads to Samsing which is about 15 km from Chalsa. The roads to the right go to Lataguri (20 km) via Gorumara National Park. There are private accommodations available near Chalsa from where you can visit the Gorumara National Park. You can also visit other tourist destinations nearby including Samsing, Bindu, Murti etc. Arguably the best hotel in the region, the Sinclair's retreat is located on a hillock close to Chalsa. Chalsa is also famous for the many tea gardens surrounding it. Apart from the Chalsa Tea garden, you can also take a stroll inside the beautiful ivill tea garden.
